Google Translate is an extension/add-on for Chrome that can be used to translate items within courses as well as uploaded documents. Below are the steps to use this extension within a course once it has been added to your browser.
- Highlight the text you would like translated.
- Right click and choose Google Translate (will look like the icon at the top of this article).
- A new window opens, and the chosen text appears in a box on the left. There is a box on the right with the option of over 100 languages. Choose the language to be translated to, and the text in the box will automatically update with the translated text.
If you want the translated text read aloud from this same page you can highlight the text, right click, and use the Speak it! Extension if it is installed. (For more information on Speak It, review the help article on Text To Speech Resources.)
In addition, there is an app for phone/iPad/tablet that can be used for texting and translating images. It also allows the user to download a language to use offline.
